About Us
Dennis' Homemade Ice Cream started in the '80s in Elmira on Roe Avenue by Dennis Caso. He started using an old fashioned ice cream maker, you know, the kind which uses rock salt and ice. Well, after getting larger demand, Dennis moved the operation to Corning. He had a good go of it in Corning and started using a high end ice cream making machine. Dennis was also studying holistic healing and took a break to focus on his studies. Upon his return, he began to perform acupuncture, Tai Chi and other similar practices. He missed his ice cream and picked up where he left off, making his move to the Ithaca Farmers market. In 2010, he purchased Decker Pond outside of Ithaca, where he is growing his business. You will still see him at the Farmer's market and in his new place.

About Us
Double E Farms, located in Willseyville, NY, produces shiitake and oyster mushrooms on hardwood logs. The wood they use is selected and cut from over 70 wooded acres using sustainable forestry practices. All mushrooms are cultivated using natural and organic methods. Mushrooms form on cultivated logs as they do naturally and are harvested by hand in the woods where they grow. The hearty flavor of shiitake is prized by chefs and the texture of log grown caps is considered superior. The shelf life of log grown shiitake is about three weeks when kept refrigerated. Current research indicates that shiitake mushrooms are widely beneficial to human health; they help boost the immune system and have anti-viral and anti-cancer properties and shiitakes contain seven of the eight essential amino acids and provide an ideal protein. Mushrooms are available through CSA shares, and at GreenStar Cooperative Market in Ithaca, NY, they are also suppliers to a number of fine restaurants in the region, as well as the Crooked Carrot CSK.

About Us
Early Bird Farm was founded by Ray Sheldrake and his wife, Elsie, in 1959 on Elmira Road. Ray Sheldrake was a noted Extension Horticulturist at Cornell University. He was a pioneer in the development of double poly greenhouses and Cornell peatlite soilless mix. At the time, most growers used frames and hot beds to grow their product. The double poly house helped many growers in the bedding plant industry, who may not have been able to afford expensive glass greenhouses. Ray and his colleagues at Cornell were the first to develop a uniform soil mix that was a mix of peat moss, perlite mix and nutrients needed to grow the crop. Plant losses in production due to disease, poor nutrient management and even insects decreased by 80%. He was also responsible for the many innovations seen in plastic mulches for field vegetables, drip irrigation, soluble plant fertilizers, growing in bags and plant growth regulators (PGRs). Even after retirement, Ray continued to work and became the director of the Sheldrake Research Center, and he was the chief consultant for W.R. Grace & Co., working on soil development and plant nutrition.
In the beginning, Ray and Elsie sold sweet corn and other vegetables that they grew on their farm. Elsie's love of flowers turned into a business venture when she started growing and selling flowering plants in one small greenhouse. As the years progressed, additional greenhouses were erected and there was a boom in flower and vegetable production. Currently there are 10 greenhouses with a combined total of 35,000 square feet of growing space, and a new garden center is in the works.
Ray and Elsie's son, George, is successfully running the family business. Early Bird Farm has developed into retail greenhouses and a roadside market. Early Bird Farm opens in mid-April when the greenhouses are overflowing with a wide variety of annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs. The vast majority of these plants are grown from seed or propagated from cuttings. These cuttings come from the most respected growers from around the world, and are top quality disease free plants.
The goal is to provide new and unusual varieties that will set your garden apart from the rest. Feel free to browse their selection, meet the crew and let them help you get your garden ready for the new season. Plans are currently in the works for more growing and shopping space to provide customers the ultimate gardening experience.

About Us
We're a small organic (non-certified) farm growing vegetables and fruit as well as raising lamb. We do rotational grazing for the flock and use only organic inputs. We live off-grid -- wind and solar -- and heat our straw bale house with wood. We manage our 45-acre farm to be as sustainable as possible. We use Leona Meats, a certified organic butcher, and our artisanal lamb is finished with our own organic fruits and vegetables to give it a tender, savory flavor.
